It discusses the responsibilities of a charge nurse as a leader and as a nurse, the definition of mission command and the mission command system, the principles of mission command, and how a charge nurse uses three of the six principles. Various articles, books, and journals were pulled in order to discuss these various topics concerning mission command and how a charge nurse utilizes its principles. How a Charge Nurse Uses Mission Command Mission command is a basic, yet complex concept used by leaders to bring their people together to complete a mission. Though it is a term coined by the military, the concept behind it is almost universal in the sense that it can be utilized within any team of people to complete a task. Those who work in a hospital environment know this better than most, and for charge nurses, utilizing the concepts of mission command is essential if they want to be an effective leader when taking charge of their floor.
